Dont think so!! I think his transfer to WRC is the biggest news in motor racing for a long time, one could even argue bigger news than Schumi back in an F1 seat.
Quite a bold move by the 2007 F1 World Champ, competing against the likes of Loeb & Hirvonen he'll certaily have his work cut out.
Allthough I was a hard core follower of the "Iceman" during his 7 years in F1, I think his personality will fit WRC better, as lets face it, they're all pretty boring and montone in front of a camera.
He'll have lots of fellow Finns he can drink vodka with too and now he can really put the "Iceman" name to the test, can he drive on the ice or not? They might be calling him the "Snowman", "Snowplow" or even "Icemonkey" depending on his performance.
There is no doubt that Kimi is one of the most natrually gifted F1 drivers I have ever seen but is this the right move for him? I think one things for sure, if he does well in WRC we wont see him behind a wheel of an F1 car again..???

I think Kimi is taking a year out to try his hands at something new and exciting. Towards the end of the season it lookied like he'd lost his motivation so I think he'll be back once he retrieves his mojo :)

Looking forward to seeing how Kimi will do in Rally, I think he will be fast but wont challenge the leaders this year. I dont think he will be back in F1.
ReplyDeleteI used to be a big fan of Kimi, but over the last 2 to 3 years he just seemed to care more about partying and doing his own thing than being part of the Ferrari team. I seemed as if he was only driving to make sure he complies with his contract.
ReplyDeleteWhereas Massa was seemingly continuing the Schumacher tradition of pushing the team to the limit in terms of development and progress, Kimi just did not seem interested.
I definitely think a telling factor was that he was not able to negotiate a deal with any of the top F1 teams for the 2010 season.
Will he do well in WRC ?.....I dont know, maybe, but he will definitely need to get his head straight first.
Kimi for me is still a legend, not sure about an F1 legend but a very cool customer. Dont think he was ever going to continue with that ludicrous paycheck of his, which if I remember correct was the combined salary of 17 drivers in 2009, he definately was not worth that much.
ReplyDeleteThe man is a PR disaster, the most words he has ever strung together in one interview is like 30. He goes on drinking binges and falls asleep outside clubs. He doesnt want to appear at any Ferrari publicity events and he gets drunk at pretty much every F1 GP on the night before qualifying.....
but you have to hand it to him he is the "ICEMAN", Mr Plug & Play, you stick him inside a car thats fast and he'll drive it to its limits and sometimes beyond.
